REVIEW: "THE LEGO® MOVIE" by Jayne Waterford

Phil Lord & Christopher Miller's "THE LEGO® MOVIE" (2014) was developed by a group of people with an over developed sense of play and that is what we do. Play. As we know some of us take play very seriously and assemble ultimate expression of our play on huge boards in the basement where everything is just so.

And this is the theme of our play :) Lord Business wants to glue everything down and a hero arises from the crowd. His compulsion is to follow the instructions but with

There's a healthy spirit of criticism as The Everything is Awesome song that every one sings in synchronisity, which is a good gag when Emet has been preping himself for the day and following the instructions on how to be happy, puts his head out the window to say, "Good morning city!" and everyone else does at the same time... Brushing hair takes one sweep of the brush (a change of piece) and the whole crux of the matter comes down to the piece of resistance because, "The only thing that can stop the Kragle is the Piece of Resistance," - Wyldstyle (Banks)

Liam Neeson (who plays Bad Cop/Good Cop) and

Morgan Freeman (Vitruvius) both appear to have a lot of fun in these roles. Liam Neeson voices Bad Cop/Good Cop's mammy and daddy while Freeman voices the ghost of Vitruvius.

No one mentions Meccano.

How do you deal with different franchises releasing what essentially are the same characters. Michelangelo the renaissance painter and Michaelangelo the purple ninja turtle, Gandalf and Doubledoor? You put them all on the stage together.

There's also a bit of a reality check as Emmet recites the lines that turned him around to Lord Business to make him a force for good. "You are... talented, interesting... most extraordinary person in the world... might explode."

There are many hyper-positive instructions throughout the movie, as correcting defective programming in children. Believe that you are special and you are special!!!

Features include the STOP MOTION OCEAN :)

A very cheerful 1 hour and 40 minutes. A pleasant afternoon. People enjoyed themselves. 6/10

Anticipation of REVIEW: "THE LEGO® MOVIE" by Jayne Waterford

Everything is smooth...

"THE LEGO® MOVIE" lost the edge with "WRECK-IT RALPH" where we were surprised and delighted by the movement of the characters. The plot will really have to find an edge if it's to get our adulation somehow, however if the music is anything to go by there will be no surprises. It will be twee.
