REVIEW: "PITCH PERFECT 2" by Jayne Waterford

*SPOILERS: there's no other way around it*

Rebel Wilson plays a more complex Fat Amy as someone who knows talent. She's, "met three of the Wiggles." She also takes the full burden of all of the crass jokes. Even when she and Bumper reunite via solo, performed to Phyllida Lloyd's "MAMMA MIA!" (2008) production values, and the crossing of an under-estimated lake after the manner of Little White Dove and Hugh Hudson's "CHARIOTS OF FIRE" (1981) (Vangelis? Jelly? [Ongoing pun there - ed.], almost; uniting on the verge and causing everyone else in the company to run away in anticipation of sexual exploits to rival all drunken party else, I mean where were they hooking up the first time? Only I don't think they were drunk. They're just full on.

So, as the most talented person in the group, our Australian, our own Tasmanian, Fat Amy (Rebel Wilson) under-scores a pretty group of talented college girls, all on the cusp of graduating, all except a girl called Legacy (Hailee Steinfeld). Amy has the plot propelling costume mishap and flashes the president of the United States of America. Well, I suppose it's more like virtual sex.

Plus clearly she has stitched on more weight for the role.

Lots of groups cop it in this production: Americans (whom no body likes), Germans (who are nothing but abrupt, attractive and wooden. Yeah right. I mean the real ones are cuter than that though they don't even say hello when they pop up to see you,) and men but not black, gay, women :) Honestly, the Germans could have at least ben funny but they wre just crass and thick and dull. Horrible stereotype and for this I dock you serious points.

Snoop Dogg sings for us a Christmas carol and it is immaculate. He's gracious enough to allow our star Beca (Anna Kendrick) to sing and beats all over him. And has she been working hard; she sounds strong and great! Here Becca takes the leap and starts work at a record label. She begins at the bottom as Reggie. And she melts down providing a dip more than an arc. [ARC! ARC!]

The weirdness factor amongst the girls remains high and doesn't need one quietly announcing "all her teeth come from other people," to be obvious.

I had a fun time and though their number at the World Championship of A Capella in Copenhagen was moving I found the final number in "PITCH PERFECT"

1 more exhillarating, or perhaps that's because I listened to it a lot. It is as exhillarating as their first number in this film; the one so rudely interrupted. Yeah Amy! 2 was also a lot less frosty.

A lot of jokes went over our heads. I think the reason why the World Championships were in Copenhagen was so Fat Amy could announce that Christian Anderson was really bad in the "STAR WARS"' prequels. Maybe they wouldn't cast her in J.J. Abrams' "STAR WARS: EPISODE VII - THE FORCE AWAKENS" (2015).

And that's pretty much what the film is like, all fast talk, lots of information and perfection. We welcome the Fat Amy's butt jokes. She gets all the laughs. I guess it's kind of a musical without being a musical. No one bursts into song to explain their feelings to us so we can enjoy the musical treats without ever fearing that we'd ever have to attend a sing-a-long version of this Young Adult, American-Australian classic.
