REVIEW: "MUPPETS MOST WANTED" by Jayne Waterford

James Bobin's "MUPPETS MOST WANTED" (2013) is a charming musical featuring an established cast, the biggest numbers with the biggest, guest-star pulling power in the world.

I thought the evil frog was a big hoaky but hoaky is the Muppet's middle name. Gosh, he can sing, appropriately sleazy ballads.

Big name guest characters were flawlessly integrated into plot and it was surprising who could handle big band solos with Broadway production values. Did you know Ricky Gervais could dance? And setting Tina Fey's Gulag Crew's shenanigans to dance was very real [, particularly when the audience was moved to tears at the sensitive rendition of ballet at the Gulag Annual Review].

There were self-reflexive references to new characters being introduced when there were previously newly introduced Muppet characters already waiting in the wings *tiny frog does walk through on the heels of mouse*. Ty Burrell plays his Interpol investigator with a perfect weight. Ricky Gervais on the other hand was perfect. I particularly enjoyed how broadly he smiled when ever he walked

on stage with the puppet cast. It was obviously a joy to be there.

Celine Deion's cameo as the spirit of hope and dreams in the heart-breaking song by Miss Piggy was a treat.

I also enjoyed being at home with the cast as they travelled between gigs on their transcontinental train. We were treated to a wonderful sense of place.

It's a wonderful movie. A pleasant afternoon.

9/10
