REVIEW: "BAD NEIGHBOURS" by Jayne Waterford

I feel seedy.

Zac Efron's Teddy leads the beta version of a fraternity house, DELTA PSI into the suburbs in the battle of family vs. frat OR marriage vs. brotherhood. Their three strikes are administered by Lisa Kudrow who plays it straight and tough and still seems funny.

On team DELTA PSI there are: Teddy Sanders (Zac Efron), Pete (Dave Franco), Scooter (Christopher Mintz-Plasse) (Ass-Juice and many others) against team married life next door: Kelly Radner (Rose Byrne), Mac Radner (Seth Rogen), Stella (The Vargas twins Elise & Zoey that together make a delightful baby) and recently divorced pals, Jimmy & Paula (Ike Barinholtz & Carla Gallo).

Recent veterans from the same college, Mac and Kelly Radner struggle with the tedium of being confined to the house with their newborn, Stella. They are crazy about each other and would do anything to make their life together work. They over talk things and do every waking thing together and are so kind.

In the mean time, while our plot finds its natural conclusion team Stoller ratchets up the relatively hard core content, making the John Landis' "ANIMAL HOUSE" (1978) styled college flick relevant today.

The lesson? Experience, maturity, insight and cunning triumph over youth and overt aggression. We don't see much of the baby for hours at a stretch, meaning she is constantly monitored and never considered to be in danger. Our happy couple are more bent on reliving their glory days than being left out, bringing their out-of-sync popular culture, mis-weighted words and wrong hand gestures. It's nice to see mom win, repeatedly. Those kids didn't stand a chance. It'll be interesting to see where "22 JUMP STREET" take the generational shift this time?

What happens to the dumb-ass? He spruiks for Abercrombie. His most crushing moment perhaps was when a TNT recruiter, looking for talent on campus explained to him that they were, "looking for students who were more academically inclined... You're too dumb." But on the up side, "the sexiest guy I have ever seen," who, "looks like something a gay guy designed in a laboratory," exclaims Mac to Kelly, has a whole body that looks like an advertisement for his cock or words to that effect (further paraphrasing Mac Radner). Is Mac intimidated by beauty? No he is not. FYI Who has the biggest cock? Scooter.

I realised the usher could see me bopping along to the closing tunes while the credits rolled. 6/10
