REVIEW: "ANCHORMAN 2: THE LEGEND CONTINUES" by Jayne Waterford
Feeling horrified is the new funnny.
8/10 for lack of success.
Will Ferrell is not having fun with this character. He's like a real person. Adam McKay's "ANCHORMAN 2: THE LEGEND CONTINUES" (2013) is not a laugh out loud movie. These guys think they are better than that.
Firstly, "ANCHORMAN 2: THE LEGEND CONTINUES" ("ANCHORMAN 2") is set on a very clever premise, at the genesis of the world’s first 24-hour global cable news network, GNN, in New York City. And secondly, 24-hour news facilitates "ANCHORMAN 2" to ask the question, where on earth would Cam Brady look normal? And this was the answer, in a box treating an adoring public to small stuff. In fact, he went further than answering the question where would I look normal and asked what do people really want see? It's not even people of the eighties. It's people.
They want to see: aliens, Canadians, Sacha Baron Cohen, primordial behaviour and big hair. Now, I recently saw "AMERICAN HUSTLE" so I'm struggling to remember if I actually saw any scantily clad women in
"ANCHORMAN 2". But let's go with yes. That and cameos. Who should pull off a motor bike helmut but Mr. Twinky nose himself Vince Vaughan. Who should apologise tastefully for tripping into the verbal personal space of his colleagues but Jim Carrey. It goes on. Liam Neeson? Harrison Ford, well he's in everything these days while Neeson takes a well deserved break. Clearly once word got out that the news team were doing a world publicity tour in the months leading up to the theatrical release of "ANCHORMAN 2" everyone wanted to be in the finale. Everyone. Except Phil Rosenthal. What's up with that?
It was okay.
Kristen Wiig as Brick Tamland (Steve Carell)'s intended, Chani may have been a highlight if looking at her wasn't time out. They are so sweet together though I feel the camera could have respected their privacy a little more. It was nice to see to see Brick go all Orangutang protecting her against her mega-bitch boss.
